save your connection (optional)bookmark editor

You may find that creating a login shortcut now will save some time later on. Once you are connected to the web server (as outlined above and shown at right) choose new Shortcut... from the Customize menu, configure the screen as outlined below and click OK.

putting (uploading) a file on the server

Click "put file" located on the right side of the window.

Find the file you wish to put on the server and click the Open button.
Load text files (HTML docs) as text and picture files as raw data.
If you do not do this, your files will not load correctly!

getting (downloading) a file from the server

connected window

Click once on the file you want to get.
Click "get file" located on the right side of the window.
Save the file on your hard drive or diskette where you would like it.
You may open the file in the program it was created in, make changes, save, and re-upload.

alternative method for uploading/downloading files

You may drag and drop files to and from your hard drive or removable media (floppy diskette, Zip disk, etc.) to the Fetch window rather than using the Put File... and Get File... buttons as described above.

Click the radio button next to Automatic (see figure at right).

To put (upload) a file on the server:
Drag the file from your hard drive or removable media to the Fetch window. Fetch may use an alert sound when the file transfer is complete.

To get a file (download) from the server:
Drag the file you want from the server to your hard drive or removable media. Fetch may use an alert sound when the file transfer is complete.

test your new pages

Your web page address will be:

http://students.uindy.edu/~username (student sites)
http://facstaff.uindy.edu/~username (faculty/staff personal sites)
http://dept.uindy.edu (departmental sites)
http://intranet.uindy.edu/username (student organization sites)

Replace username/dept with your departmental/personal username.  The ~ (tilde) character is the shifted backquote in the upper-left corner of your keyboard.

If your pages do not work properly, troubleshoot your pages and re-upload them once the problems have been fixed.
